As some of you will already be aware, SMIRA is organising a Selective Mutism Awareness Week for early October this year. Thanks to an initiative by a family in Aberystwyth, a meeting has been arranged for the Senedd in Cardiff on 7th October to coincide with our campaign and to publicise SMIRA and selective mutism. It is anticipated that certain members of the Welsh Assembly will attend, along with representatives of Education Authorities and children's services in Wales. Both Maggie Johnson and Lindsay (SMIRA's Co-ordinator) will be addressing the meeting and there will be a Press Release a few days beforehand.
Prior to this meeting we would like to get some background information on the state of services for SM children in Wales and we would very much like members' help on this.
